The end of the traffic collapse in Split is looming, with a large infrastructure project connecting the Airport and Ferry Port in Split, which will certainly revive Split. In the train that left Kaštel Stari for the city port of Split with a stop in Kopilica, two contracts were signed which are a precondition for relieving the traffic in the City Port of Split and its approaches. These are the Land Lease Agreement between the City of Split and HŽ Infrastruktura and the agreement with HŽ Cargo. On that occasion, the project of connecting Split Airport with the City of Split and the development of the intermodal hub of the new Split main station in Kopilica was presented, and the strategic project was adopted by the Government at a session held in Split this year.”Signed contracts allow us to rent a space in Kopilica where we will realize a temporary bus and train station”Said Mayor Andro Krstulović Opara and added that for this purpose, four million kuna has been proposed in the Budget for next year.Kopilica from next summer, the new traffic center of SplitThus, as early as next summer, Kopilica will be connected by train with the city port, which will run every 15 minutes, in January 2019 according to the plan.Otherwise, the full profile of this line will be from Split Airport, where it is necessary to upgrade another six kilometers of railway to the airport, while a temporary bus station with 19 platforms and a railway station will be built in Kopilica, four parking lots will be arranged, of which one intended for buses, mainly tourist buses. In the following period, another railway station will be built on the Square of the Croatian Fraternal Union. The budget for next year envisages four million kuna for this phase of the project. It is planned to apply for EU funds for the permanent project of relocating the bus and railway station. This year alone, more than three million passengers will pass through Split Airport, while the Ferry Port reached the number of almost 5,5 million passengers in September. So, it is about 9 million people who will have a much better connection between the Ferry and the Airport this way. Also, the citizens of Kaštela, Trogir and Solin should definitely be taken into account, who will use this line every day with a connection to the center of Split. This project should have been realized at least 10 years ago, if not much earlier, to think about the strategic development of the city as well as tourism, but better late than never.
