Zenyatta?John Shirreffs hasn’t quite developed that state of mind yet for his one-eyed wonder filly, but the dazzling daughter of Hard Spun did conjure up thoughts of Zenyatta after she won her fifth race from six starts, the Grade II Santa Monica Stakes Saturday by 3 ½ lengths under regular rider Mike Smith.Of course, she has miles to go before achieving the legendary status of Zenyatta, winner of 19 of 20 starts under Shirreffs’ trusted tutelage, the only female to defeat males in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (2009) and Horse of the Year in 2010.“She looked good this morning,” Shirreffs said of Hard Not to Love, who lost her left eye as a youngster when kicked by another horse and is an ongoing work in progress as she continues to overcome her disability and prepares for the Grade I Beholder Mile on March 14.“I think people are starting to like her,” Shirreffs allowed when asked about any similarities to Zenyatta this early on. “I think we can safely say that. She has a lot of talent, obviously. You can’t achieve what she has without the talent.“She’s fun to watch and it’s enjoyable seeing how much everyone appreciates her. Mike Smith has a special relationship with her, as does her exercise rider, Amy Vasko, and her groom, Martin Lopez.”And her growing legion of fans.“They all have their special connections,” Shirreffs said, “and that’s really enjoyable.”And although Hard Not to Love “enjoys” half the vision of most Thoroughbreds, safe to say she has twice the talent.RISPOLI HAS RECIPE FOR SUCCESS AT SANTA ANITAWith three victories Saturday, newcomer Umberto Rispoli climbed to fourth place in Santa Anita’s Winter Meet jockey standings with 19, seven behind leader Joel Rosario. Both riders are represented by world-class agent Ron Anderson.Rispoli, a two-time champion in his native Italy, won the third race on Princeofthenorth ($7.60) for trainer Hector Palma; the seventh on Coast of Roan ($13.60) for Doug O’Neill; and the ninth aboard Jurgen ($7.80) for John Sadler. All the races were on turf.“He’s certainly exceeded what I thought he could at this point, especially with the limited number of horses and opportunities,” Anderson said, quickly adding, “Umberto is an exceptional rider and an exceptional horseman, and he works hard.“That’s a good recipe for success around here right now.”MISS HOT LEGS SET FOR WISHING WELL, SIMON SAYSSimon Callaghan sends out consistent Miss Hot Legs in Monday’s Presidents’ Day feature, the $70,000 Wishing Well Stakes for fillies and mares at 5 ½ furlongs on turf. The four-year-old daughter of Verrazano owned by Qatar Racing Limited and TNIP, LLC has never failed to earn a check in eight career starts, finishing in the money seven times and earning $132,080.“It’s a short field and we have a good post,” the trainer said, “and she’s training well off a layoff. I think she’ll run well.”Miss Hot Legs has not raced since last Nov. 10 when she won a five-furlong turf sprint at Del Mar by a length and a quarter under Abel Cedillo, who retains the mount Monday. As to his star of the stable, multiple Grade I-winning filly Bellafina, currently at Los Alamitos, Callaghan said, “We gave her a little break and she’ll start back breezing this week. We’re targeting the Madison (Grade I, $300,000, seven furlongs at Keeneland March 18).”The Wishing Well, race seven of eight with a 12:30 p.m. first post time: An Eddie Surprise, Joel Rosario, 7-2; Apache Princess, Flavien Prat, 2-1; Kentan Road, Jorge Velez, 9-5; Tonahutu, Umberto Rispoli, 8-1; and Miss Hot Legs, Abel Cedillo, 3-1.There is special holiday racing tomorrow, which also is Dollar Day, with beer and soda on sale for a buck and hot dogs for $2. First post time is 12:30 p.m.FINISH LINES: Streaking winner of his last five races including the Donald Valpredo California Cup Sprint on Jan. 18, Fashionably Fast worked six furlongs this morning in 1:13 as trainer Dean Pederson prepares the son of Lucky Pulpit for the $100,000 Tiznow Stakes on March 1. Triple Crown hopeful American Theorem breezed four furlongs in 49.80 for George Papaprodromou. Tiago Pereira worked both horses . . . Congratulations to jockey Eswan Flores and his wife, Kaylee, on the birth of their first child, daughter Everlea Livier, who weighed in at seven pounds, two ounces yesterday at St. Jude’s Hospital in Fullerton . . . Richard Mandella has San Marcos Stakes winner United on course for the $6 million Dubai Sheema Classic at 1 ½ miles on turf March 28 . . . In a dramatic come-from-behind victory reminiscent of Eddie Delahoussaye in his prime, Mike Smith guided French Getaway to a  1 ½-length triumph over six rivals in Saturday’s first race at 1 1/8 miles on turf. Last of seven while six wide turning into the stretch, French Getaway accelerated after steadying briefly when in tight leaving the first turn, then rolled by the field and was under a hold in the final strides.  A five-year-old gelded son of Giant’s Causeway trained by Bob Hess Jr. for owner Schroeder Farms, LLC, the winner paid $6.40 as the favorite . . . Drayden Van Dyke has been suspended five days (Feb. 22, 23, 28, 29 and March 1) for causing interference on Hot Magistrate in Friday’s eighth race, resulting in a disqualification of his mount from seventh to ninth . . . Tomorrow’s Wishing Well Stakes is named in honor of the dam of 1989 Horse of the Year Sunday Silence, who won that year’s Santa Anita and Kentucky Derbies, Preakness Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Classic.
