School children on clean mission to curb dengue threat

first_imgBALURGHAT: South Dinajpur district administration has taken up initiatives to curb dengue during the onset of monsoon.A special campaign will start on June 26, which will last for a week, involving Kanyashree students of state-run schools to promote cleanliness in the district. Kanyashree students from Classes IX to XII will take part in the programme. Four to five schools in each block covering total eight blocks — Balurghat, Tapan, Gangarampur, Hili, Kumarganj, Harirampur, Kushmandi and Banshihari — will be selected by concerned sub-divisional officers of Balurghat and Gangarampur and the block development officers. Several sensitisation programmes on vector-borne diseases will be conducted in classrooms. Quiz competitions will be held and the winners will be awarded certificates by the sub-divisional officers and block development officers. Apart from steps to prevent dengue, various other initiatives for better health have also been taken by the District Magistrate Nikhil Nirmal. A new helpline number (7719382846) will be started to address beneficiaries’ grievances from June 24. A committee to inspect nursing homes was formed for better services at public and private institutions. An initiative has been undertaken to convert Rastriya Swasthya Bima Yojana cardholders to Swasthya Sathi cardholders in each block under supervision of district Nodal team of Swasthya Sathi by the second week of July. A forum for detection and diagnosis of tuberculosis has been formed with members of various sectors along with people who recovered from the disease. A source said a programme to reach out to people residing in remote areas to create awareness on early detection of the disease and its cure, will be held on July 8 and continue till July 22. A campaign on Rota Virus Vaccination campaign will start from August to prevent diarrhea among children under five years of age as a part of Universal Immunization Programme.
