first_img Switzerland to extradite former FIFA VP BERN, Switzerland (AP) – Swiss authorities yesterday approved a US request to extradite former FIFA vice-president Eugenio Figueredo, who is accused of bribery and fraudulently obtaining American citizenship. Figueredo, an 83-year-old Uruguay native, has 30 days to appeal the decision, Switzerland’s justice ministry said. He was among seven football officials arrested May 27 in early-morning hotel raids in Zurich, two days before the FIFA presidential election. Figueredo, who has been detained in a Zurich-area prison, faces a 20-year sentence on racketeering charges. Oscar heads Brazil squad RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) – Brazil coach Dunga, who will have to do without suspended Barcelona star Neymar as South American World Cup qualifying opens next month, named a squad yesterday headed by Chelsea midfielder Oscar. Neymar is serving a four-match ban after being sent off in the Copa America. He will miss both matches as Brazil opens on October 8 in Santiago, Chile, and then faces Venezuela on October 13 in the northeastern Brazilian city of Fortaleza. Szczesny out with injury ROME (AP) – Roma goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will be out for up to six weeks after injuring his finger in Wednesday’s Champions League match against Barcelona. Szczesny had to be replaced early in the second half of the 1-1 draw following a clash with Luis Suarez. Roma said yesterday tests have confirmed Szczesny “did not sustain a fracture to the fourth finger of his left hand” but that the Poland international has a ligament strain.
