TORONTO – As he appeared on the biggest stage of his young basketball career, Alfonzo McKinnie’s mind wandered. He had the unenviable task of guarding Toronto forward Kawhi Leonard, a far cry from when he played in Luxembourg, Mexico and in the G-League. So after closing out on Leonard in a recent NBA Finals game, McKinnie kept repeating a phrase to himself internally.“Stick hands!!” McKinnie said to himself. “Stick hands!!”What does ‘stick hands’ mean? McKinnie learned the term from Jerry …
The A’s … OAKLAND — Are A’s fans sick of silver linings? Understandable, if so.After all, now following a 5-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays in the Wild Card game on Wednesday, the A’s haven’t won a postseason series since they swept the Minnesota Twins in 2006 ALDS.Talent flows from this organization, and this 2019 team in particular had the talent to challenge even generationally great times like the Houston Astros. After the Wild Card loss, I floated this silver lining on Twitter:
Konkan Railway’s (KR) plans to replace conventional coaches with the modern Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches on Konkan Kanya Express and Mandovi Express comes with a key tradeoff: fewer seats in the sleeper class. The two trains are among the most crowded on the Mumbai-Goa line. The two trains will run with 22 LHB coaches from June 10 as opposed to the 24 conventional coaches. “LHB coaches have a higher capacity than conventional coaches. The overall capacity of the train will not be affected greatly due to the change but passengers will get a safer, more comfortable journey,” said L.K. Verma, Chief Public Relations Officer, KR.Conventional coaches have 72 seats, and 792 seats in the sleeper class. LHB coaches, on the other hand, have 80 seats and in the arrangement from September 1, the two trains will have nine sleeper class coaches with a seating capacity of 720. While the overall capacity of the train will only be reduced by eight seats, the effective reduction in the sleeper class will be 72 seats or one full coach. The capacity of three-tier air conditioned (AC) and two-tier AC coaches will increase. The trains have four three-tier AC coaches and one two-tier AC coach. However, in the coach composition for the two trains, the railways will be sacrificing two unreserved coaches, used by the poorer sections in the country, in the initial phase between June 10 and August 31, Railway officials said the coaches had to be reduced to maintain the length of the train.LHB coaches are made up of stainless steel and the interiors are made of aluminium, which make them lighter than the conventional rakes. They are also equipped with Centre Buffer Coupling, which provides greater safety in the event of derailments and has an improved suspension system. The coaches also have wider windows and better ventilation than conventional coaches.
A Trinamool Congress leader was shot dead at Nimta in West Bengal’s North 24 Paraganas district on Tuesday evening. A video footage captured by closed-circuit television cameras installed near the leader’s house shows a man slumping on the road even as a motorcycle speeds away. Nirmal Kundu was declared brought dead at a hospital. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the murder.A police officer in Barrackpore municipality said one of the persons, Suman Kundu, arrested in connection with the murder was a BJP supporter. Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee is likely to visit Nimta on Thursday and meet the family members of the deceased. The killing triggered a fresh war of words between the TMC and the BJP.Earlier in the day participating in Id-ul-Fitr celebrations, Ms. Banerjee said “whoever messes with us will be decimated. This is our slogan”.West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh refuted the allegations of a BJP supporter being involved in the murder. “Whenever there is any political murder, the TMC blames the BJP. The TMC has tried to link even my name in the murder of a person in Kharagpur,” Mr. Ghosh said.‘Infighting to blame’The BJP leader blamed the infighting in the TMC and the deteriorating law and order situation in the State for the murders. After the results of the Lok Sabha poll, political murders have continued unabated in Bengal and supporters of both the parties have died in the violence. Meanwhile, a number of local leaders of different political parties and Anju Ghosh, actor of well known Bengali film Beder Meye Josna, joined the BJP on Wednesday.

The iPhone maker has officially joined the Data Transfer Project, or DTP, a collaboration that launched in July 2018.The DTP is working to build a “common framework with open-source code” that can connect any two online services and let users seamlessly transfer data between the platforms, according to the project’s website. It uses platforms’ existing APIs and authorization methods to access data, then transfers it into a common format. So far, contributors from partners and the open-source community have inserted more than 42,000 lines of code and changed more than 1,500 files, according to the group. Twitter/Shashi TharoorDefense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday after the Congress leader was hospitalised after injuring his head during a temple ceremony.Saying that “civility was a rare virtue in politics”, Tharoor thanked Sithramaran in a tweet for visiting him in the hospital and enquiring about his health. Sitharaman is currently in Kerala campaigning for the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections which will be held in a single phase on April 23. Tharoor’s rival LDF leader C Divakaran had also called him up on Tuesday morning to express concern for his well-being. The latter tweeted thanking him for his concerns. Tharoor will be defending the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat against Divakaran. Twitter/Shashi TharoorTharoor was injured when he was taking part in a Thulabharam ritual at the Gandhari Amman Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. This ritual expects a person to sit on one plate of a balance and banana will be weighed against him on the other plate till it reaches the person’s weight. Tharoor hurt himself when the balance broke and fell on his head. It required six stitches.
Virat Kohli and Anushka SharmaInstagramReports of Anushka Sharma’s pregnancy keep surfacing on social media and the speculations have followed her whenever she was seen wearing loose clothes or for staying away from films. Anushka hasn’t paid any heed to such rumours but it irks her when she needs to clarify the reports.”What irks me is the clarification part. Do I need to clarify? Nahi! But then that’s how it is. Any actress, who gets married… sabke baare mein they’ve said something. Someone could be wearing clothes that are loose. That’s because they’re trendy. But they’re said to be pregnant. It’s like a monkey on your back. You can’t do anything about it. You just ignore it,” Anushka Sharma told Filmfare in an inteview. When Anushka was asked if the rumours of her pregnacy keep filmmakers away from her, she said, “I’m fortunate this has not happened. It could happen. An actress gets married and the next thing they talk about it is, ‘Is she pregnant?’ When she’s dating it’s like, ‘Shaadi karne wale hai ki nahi?’ It’s crude. You should allow people to live their life. What’s the need to jump the gun? Then put someone in a position where they end up clarifying unnecessarily.”Anushka has not signed anything new post-Zero. But if you ask her about it, she says that it was a conscious decision as she wanted to take a couple of months off after Zero.Meanwhile, Anushka and husband Virat Kohli have flown to Miami with the Indian Cricket Team and a few pictures of them have surfaced online. Take a look.
