zoom The restructuring of the financially-troubled South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) will go ahead as Korean Development Bank (KDB) plans to inject fresh funds to support the bailout plan despite the opposition from an individual investor, the Korea Herald reports citing the bank as saying.“One investor opposing the funds is not going to stop the plan from continuing to move forward,” a KDB spokesperson is quoted as saying. The announcement was made in the aftermath of a court rejection of the appeal from a group of individual investors to the bailout plan. However, the investor is said to be planning to take the case to the top court soon, as informed by Korean media. The plan envisages, half of the shipyard’s commercial papers to be converted into equity with the rest being rolled over. DSME’s creditors Korea Development Bank (KDB) and Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM) will in exchange provide the company with KRW 2.9 trillion (USD 2.6 billion). The transaction would push the debt ratio to 300%, compared to 2,732% at the end of 2016.Separately, the bank said in a press release on Monday that the management committee for the shipbuilder’s normalization, comprising experts from the shipbuilding industry, finance, restructuring, accounting and legal sector along with representatives from credit banks, held a meeting in Seoul on Monday afternoon. As disclosed, the committee will meet on monthly basis to discuss major issues regarding the company’s restructuring plan and its future effective management. The first meeting is scheduled to be held in June, the key topic on its agenda being the review of DSME’s self-initiated rescue plan and discussion of the plan’s management in 2017.KDB said in the statement that the committee plans to implement the management normalization plan “in an efficient, professional and objective manner as soon as possible.”DSME has managed to return to the black in the first quarter of 2017, following stringent self-rescue efforts which included workforce reduction and asset sales. The company’s operating profit for the period bounced back to KRW 291.8 billion compared to an operating loss of KRW 38.1 billion.A similar turnaround was reported for DSME’s net income which reached KRW 261.3 billion for the quarter ended March 31, 2017, against a net loss of KRW 3.4 billion seen in the same three-month period in 2016.World Maritime News Staff
APTN National NewsElder assisted parole hearings are normally reserved for Aboriginal inmates. But now one father wants to know why it’s possible for his daughter’s murderer to receive this special parole hearing despite the fact he is not Aboriginal.APTN National News reporter Ossie Michelin has this story.
FC Barcelona legend Patrick Kluivert, confessed that he would love it if his son Patrick could someday play for the Catalan club as he did.We have already written articles about Patrick Kluivert’s son, Justin, about his impressive talent and how it could someday fit in a club like FC Barcelona. The AS Roma young player who obviously looks up to his dad, recently started his career at Ajax and his progression has been mercurial, to the point where the Italian club saw his potential and they didn’t hesitate to sign him.Justin has already scored his first Champions League goal in AS Roma’s 5-0 victory over Viktoria Plzen a few weeks ago, which is just another step towards his ultimate goal to become a world-class player. The quality is in his blood and his father is already quite proud when he talks about the impression that he is making in European football at such a young age, but Justin’s real intentions weren’t actually public until his father spoke to La Liga Lowdown during an interview and revealed that he talks about someday following his footsteps into the Catalan club.It will obviously be a very difficult road ahead, young Kluivert will obviously have to develop his skills in Serie A to a point where FC Barcelona can gain more interest in signing him for the future.“They are 2 very good players who could fit very well into the team at Barcelona…” 👇But just who is @PatrickKluivert talking about? 🤔 Find out in Part 1️⃣ of his EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW 👥 with us here:https://t.co/0fHixkTbTcWatch, enjoy, subscribe, share! 😀#LLL🧡🇪🇸⚽️ pic.twitter.com/Ud9Pr7IaAf— La Liga Lowdown 🧡🇪🇸⚽️ (@LaLigaLowdown) October 26, 2018When listening to the interview that Patrick Kluivert offered, it is quite evident that his son’s greatest dream is to someday wear the FC Barcelona shirt and get to score goals with the same uniform that made his father a world-class superstar.“Of course [Justin] would love to play for Barcelona one day,” the 42-year-old Cameroon assistant coach told La Liga Lowdown.“He expressed in the press his goal is to play for Barcelona. He’s fitting in quite well at AS Roma. He’s in a young team with experienced and non-experienced players.”Fati and Suarez shine against Valencia at Camp Nou Tomás Pavel Ibarra Meda – September 15, 2019 With a mesmerizing first half from Ansu Fati and a brace from Luis Suarez in the second half, Barcelona demolished Valencia at Camp Nou.Valencia…“I think he needs to begin to play a lot more matches, make a lot of kilometers, and I hope at the end of the day he can sign for Barcelona because that’s also my dream, of course.”“If you see your son following in your footsteps, that’s a great feeling. If he played for Barcelona one day, I think I would be a lot more nervous than he would because he is quite down to earth and he can handle a lot of pressure.”“For a father who can do nothing from the stands but just look at your son on the pitch that you always played would be strange, but also a grateful feeling,” he concluded.Further analyzing Justin Kluivert’s characteristics as a player, we can already tell you that he has a very different set of skills than his father had as a player.Patrick was a more traditional type of forward, the very familiar tall center-forward who always acted as a perfect provider of spaces for his more skilled teammates and was always hunting for that perfect cross to strike the ball from inside the box.Justin’s trades are very different, this is one of those wingers who have mad skills with the ball at their feet and fits a lot more with that long line of Dutch wingers such as Arjen Robben, Johan Cruyff, Johan Neeskens, or Marc Overmars. This player has the potential to one day fill that empty space that players like Neymar or Lionel Messi will leave open for the new generation, obviously saving any kind of comparison with this assessment. The future seems bright for young Justin and with his father’s guidance, we are confident that he will reach a level that may be good enough for someday wear the FC Barcelona jersey and make his father proud.Justin Kluivert has all the tools to be a successful player in the Serie A. Roma are completing an incredible signing. pic.twitter.com/CMVUIiqFCb— EiF Video (@EiF_Highlights) June 13, 2018How long do you think it will take Justin Kluivert to play for FC Barcelona? Comment Share your voice Sci-Tech Today’s NASA Mars weather report: It’s freakin’ cold Trump’s Space Force is coming, but not as originally planned Yes, this is a real view of the ISS transiting the moon 17 Photos Tags Intriguingly, the fate of this planetary system may foreshadow what’s to come for the Earth. Eventually, our sun will expand into a “red giant,” swallowing Mercury and Venus (maybe even Earth) whole like The Blob rolling across small-town America. That event would tidy up the inner solar system like a cosmic Marie Kondo, and then see the star collapse into a white dwarf, its gravity dissipate and the planets at the edge of the system drift away.NASA and collaborating science and educational institutions launched Backyard Worlds: Planet 9 in February 2017 as a citizen scientist project that uses data from WISE to search for the supposed planet hiding at the edge of our solar system. Over 150,000 participants eyeball thousands of images generated by WISE to look for any anomalies that might pop up. The project has already reaped many rewards, with a brown dwarf, a type of “failed star,” discovered only six days after the project began and over a thousand similar objects discovered since. More from space NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center/Scott Wiessinger A citizen scientist working with NASA has detected an old, cold dying star that may provide a window into the fate of our own solar system billions of years from now.Melina Thévenot, a citizen scientist from Germany, detected an anomaly while searching through data collected by the European Space Agency’s Gaia spacecraft. At first, she believed it was bad data, but when she looked at the source in the images from NASA’s Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) mission, she decided the data might be valuable and handed it over to the team working on the Backyard Worlds: Planet 9 citizen scientist project. The leads on that project decided to follow up on the finding, re-positioning the Keck II telescope in Hawaii to take a deeper look. With their new set of eyes focused on the tiny spot in the sky, Keck II confirmed the blip wasn’t bad data — it was the oldest, coldest white dwarf we’ve ever spotted — and it is circled by a peculiar set of dusty rings. The discovery appears Tuesday in The Astrophysical Journal Letters. “This white dwarf is so old that whatever process is feeding material into its rings must operate on billion-year timescales,” said John Debes, an astronomer and lead author on the study. “This star is really challenging our assumptions of how planetary systems evolve.” Dubbed J0207 (or LSPM J0207+3331 for the purists), the newly discovered dead star is about the size of the Earth and located around 145 light-years from our home planet. The team believes the dead star has two disks of dusty material, the first known white dwarf to host such a weird phenomenon. Generally, dusty disks form around these bodies when asteroids or comets are flung into the gravitational pull of a the star. As they approach, the dead star’s gravity begins to tear them apart, breaking them up into pieces that constantly orbit the body. Weirdly, white dwarfs this old generally don’t maintain their dusty disks — all the material slowly falls into the star. That’s puzzled researchers, but follow-up missions may resolve the conundrum.”What makes this new white dwarf so interesting is that it’s much older than the typical dusty white dwarf,” said Debes. “That is hard to explain with our current models of how asteroids get kicked into inner white dwarf systems, but somehow Nature knows how to do it.” 1 NASA NASA Opportunity rover witnessed the wild side of Mars
Hey @JupiterLunacy, you should name the newly discovered moon S/2018 J1 Pheraea. Pheraea was involved with Zeus, and their daughter was found and saved by a shepherd, or should I say Sheppard. #NameJupitersMoons— Carnegie Science (@carnegiescience) February 21, 2019 13 Photos Post a comment But wait. There’s more. Each individual moon has more specific needs. Three of the moons are retrograde (they orbit in an opposite direction to Jupiter’s rotation) and must have names ending in “e,” while the other two must end in “a.”Carnegie wants the public to offers suggestions on Twitter by tweeting to @JupiterLunacy with the hashtag #NameJupitersMoons. Some of the suggestions so far don’t fit the brief, but one viable idea comes from Carnegie Science itself: Pheraea, one of Zeus’ lovers. I was ready to suggest Persephone, but there’s already an asteroid with that name. NASA view of Jupiter looks like an infamous South Park character NASA captures cosmic ‘dolphin’ swimming in Jupiter’s clouds Space Sci-Tech 0 Share your voice While the rules seem strict, there are some good reasons for them. The International Astronomical Union, which governs the names of space objects, already has a stringent list of requirements. The moon rules will also keep the new names on theme for Jupiter. Jupiter has 79 known moons, including famous satellites Europa and Io and the likes of Adrastea (Zeus’s foster mom) and Callisto (one of Zeus’s lovers). We’re lucky there are so many characters in Roman and Greek mythology. As it turns out, sometimes a good name is hard to find. Jupiter swirls Tags Jaw-dropping Jupiter: NASA’s Juno mission eyes the gas giant Jupiter as seen by Hubble. Space Telescope Science Institute Polyphonte, this may be your time to shine. The Carnegie Institution for Science put out a call Thursday asking for the public’s help naming some recently discovered moons found orbiting Jupiter. But don’t get carried away. There are rules. Carnegie announced the 12 moons in mid-2018, and we get a say in draping monikers on five of them. Some of the ground rules are pretty straightforward: 16 characters or less, nothing offensive, nothing too similar to existing moon or asteroid names. You also can’t name them after a living person. Now the tunnel starts to narrow. The moons must be named after characters in Roman or Greek mythology who were either descendants of or lovers of Jupiter (Roman) or Zeus (Greek). OK, maybe we can still work with that, even though that rules out calling any of them Elon, Moony McMoonFace or Buzz.
Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer SinghReuters/ Varinder ChawlaRanbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh are two contemporaries, who are having a gala time as far as their career is concerned. Both the actors have delivered blockbusters in the form of their last movies, and now are ready with some highly anticipated upcoming movies.Ranbir broke several box office records with his last film Sanju. While he was having a dull phase in his career, Sanju brought him back on track. On the other side, Ranveer has been giving back to back hit movies with critically acclaimed performances. After Padmaavat, Ranveer maintained his box office dominance with Simmba and Gully Boy. He is currently one of the most successful stars of this generation. Now, both the two stars have a couple of movies in their kitty, making each other highly competitive for each other. Hence, the two flicks are expected to create more box office records. Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer SinghMeanwhile, Ranveer also has two forthcoming films in his kitty – 83 and Takht. Based on India’s first Cricket World Cup victory in 1983, the movie 83 will present him playing the role of Kapil Dev. The film is highly awaited and is likely to create a storm at the box office. Similar is the case with multi-starrer Takht as it is also expected to become one of the biggest hits of Bollywood. With such movies in pipeline, it is difficult to predict if Ranbir will overshadow Ranveer in coming days or vice versa.

Popular on Variety Nintendo may be working on a case that can turn a smartphone into a working Game Boy, complete with functioning buttons and directional pad, according to a recently published patent uncovered by Siliconera. The folio case fully encloses a phone and uses a sheet of conductive material to transmit a finger’s touch to the smartphone’s capacitive screen, according to the patent, which was published in late September. A square window at the top of the case, above the directional pad and two buttons, turns the top of a smartphone’s screen into the screen of the classic Nintendo handheld gaming system. The FCC approved a Nintendo wireless game device on the same date that the patent was published, though the FCC’s approval includes an approved 180 days of confidentiality so the images of the device are not included with the approval. Given the timing of the confidentiality, it seems likely that Nintendo will be releasing the Game Boy phone case this holiday season, though the photos won’t be released until March.A case designed to be used to play Nintendo games on smartphones falls neatly in line with Nintendo’s relatively recent push into the mobile space. Nintendo has seen some early success as it continues to push into the mobile game space. While “Super Mario Run” didn’t do as well as expected, other games like “Fire Emblem Heroes” and “Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp” did much better. “Fire Emblem,” a gacha-style tactical RPG, is doing especially well for Nintendo. It’s reportedly earned over $400 million in revenue since its launch in February 2017. “Pocket Camp” has reportedly made over $25 million since its debut. This new case would allow Nintendo to tap into its vast back catalog of handheld games, a move that would also follow in the footsteps of Nintendo’s lucrative retro systems that it has been releasing over the past couple of years. ×Actors Reveal Their Favorite Disney PrincessesSeveral actors, like Daisy Ridley, Awkwafina, Jeff Goldblum and Gina Rodriguez, reveal their favorite Disney princesses.
